Project title:

Wetlands in Tunisia : cartography of the spatiotemporal dynamics and the natural systems deterioration (WP1, 2014)

Project description (no results)

The principal objective of this project is, in particular, to establish an expertise on the dynamics of wetlands in Tunisia and water related risks in general. This work will deal with the analyses of both satellite images and the administrative, historical and sedimentary archives… The final goal is to understand the environmental dynamics of the wetlands and to determine the frequency of marine submersion (events such as marsh, storms), floods or physical and chemical pollution phases. Being natural sedimentation areas, the wetlands well preserve the submersion traces, floods and pollution.

In this project, we have favoured the cartographic approach in order to analyze the Man-Environment interface. The application will propose a catalog about the set of geo-references’ data via a search engine that allows the identification and the selection of data we wish to visualise. The application will also allow a new representation of temporalities in the domain of flooding risks through the contributions of geo-visualisation. It will enable internauts to have a transparent access to three principal functions : access to data via visualisation and geographical navigation, research and geographical cataloguing based on a geographical search engine, and the production of interactive maps depending on the users’ needs.
