In order to prepare for improved assessments and a comprehensive synthesis of global change knowledge in the Mediterranean region, a network of Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC, http://medecc.org) has been launched by Labex OT-Med researchers: Joël Guiot (CEREGE) and Wolfgang Cramer (IMBE). This network will work towards a regional science-policy interface for climatic and other environmental changes across the Mediterranean.

This initiative continue to be developed.

In December 2015 the network has been presented and discused during COP21 (go to article).

More than 170 researchers declared to be interested by this network, including the increasing number of researchers the southern and the eastern Mediterranean. In order to better know the competences present in the network the online survey has been launched concerning the scientific disciplines. The reply rate was very high > 80%. On the basis of the replies the MedECC directory has been created.

The MedECC website has been launched: http://www.medecc.org
You may find on this website some information on the context, the objectives and the events of MedECC.

The twitter account has been created as well (@Med_ECC).

During the last few months several meetings took place with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the Institute for Research and Development (IRD) and the Plan Bleu.

The first MedECC meeting will be held on 7th and 8th April 2016 in Barcelona, at the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The first day of the meeting will be dedicated to the governance of MedECC and the second to the preparation of a perspective paper on the issues of the climatic changes in Mediterranean.

The general assembly of MedECC is planned as a side event of COP22 and the production of the first rapport is scheduled for the end of 2018.
