Context

The objectives of OT-Med will be achieved by organising and structuring interdisciplinary exchanges in research and education in the following ways: (1) by promoting interdisciplinary research projects; (2) through an ambitious policy for the reception of visiting researchers, post-docs and Ph.D. fellowships, and exchanges with southern countries; (3) by organising international symposia, summer schools and workshops; (4) by organising scientific, technical and socio-economic databases resulting from research, for both scientists and end-users etc. We want to employ a science project manager to assist the OT-Med staff in implementing all activities outlined above.

Duties and Tasks

The Scientific Project Manager (SPM) will represent OT-Med at various venues and will support the OT-Med coordinators in the preparation of reports and grant proposals. He/she will interact with national and international scientists and with stakeholders. The post is located at the Europôle de l'Arbois (Aix-en-Provence, France), but it will involve frequent travel, mostly in the countries around the Mediterranean as well as Western Europe. The essential functions are:
- To perform substantive tasks to contribute to successful execution of OT-Med projects. Tasks will include drafting and editing reports, organizing meetings and conferences, developing maps or other products from model outputs, conducting literature reviews and other related efforts;
- To assist with project communication for technical and non-technical audiences, preparing and delivering presentations and helping to plan and execute working group and stakeholder meetings;
- To maintain the web site of OT-Med and to develop a portal for expertise with respect to the construction and maintenance of document archives, data bases, expertise and joint project support for both local and national governments, businesses and associations. The SPM will be helped by the administrative director and the financial manager for the administrative part of these tasks.

Main skills needed
- at least a master degree in a domain of the environmental sciences
- experience with technical aspects of environmental data analysis
- motivation to work in a team, to travel and to develop contacts with scientists, businesses and NGOs
- strong oral and written communication skills
- computer proficiency with word processing, preparation of presentations, internet tools, database management, scientific literature exploration
- ability to work with minimum supervision and to organize the work load in order to meet demands in a fast-paced environment
- ability to monitor scientific literature
- good practice of spoken and written English
- experience in preparation and management of collaborative scientific projects is an advantage

Type of contract

- fixed term contract (CDD): two years with possible renewal of 16 months
- salary depending on diploma and experience
- starting date preferably 1st November 2012.
- The work place will be at the Europôle de l'Arbois, 12 km from Aix-en-Provence
